All of a sudden we're at the end of the tour and today is our last day of sightseeing. And although I posted loads of buildings shots yesterday, here are some more of the same as it might be the last time I pass them.
Crossing Huangpo River. You can just see the Jin Mao Tower peeking out from behind the Shanghai Tower.
My favourite roundabout.
Our first visit this morning is to the Yu Garden which is seen as one of the most perfect examples of Chinese garden style. It was built by the Ming-era governor Pan Yunduan as a retirement gift for this father and luckily for us the weather is forecast considerably better than when we went to the garden in Suzhou (although you might not think it looking at the cloud in the last photo). It's situated next to the City God Temple - and a shopping mall by the look of it!
I don't think it was just because we had good weather that I enjoyed this garden more, but I found it absolutely gorgeous, full of interesting little touches and a real delight to visit. I seem to have got rather carried away with the number of photos I took.
It starts at the entrance with this magnificent dragon wall.
Nearby was a Wishing Wall - I so wanted to leave a wish for Richard but, although I went back several times, unfortunately they didn't have any cards with the writing I wanted on.
As always it was mostly green, but there were one or two flowering plants.
The planting against a plain white wall made good minimalist images.
Fusion of the old and the new with a skyscraper in the distance.
The detail on the roofs in particular was lovely.
Unfortunately the reflections on the booth make it difficult to see the contents but it's definitely riot or fire fighting gear and one of the signs actually says "no playing"
It's bad enough when there's a person standing ruining my shot - let alone a cone!
This is one of our group and a repeat offender.
I probably look as dumb as he does.
Ian sitting in front of said Huge Rockery.
Ian and one of the Australians we had the pleasure to spend time with. They were all lovely, bar one!
This I think is simply called a Crested Duck, it did look very silly.
A family photoshoot, I was rather interested in this guy's hat.
