Shanghai - Day 3 PM Part 2

Next we drove to the centre of town to the area known as The Bund.  A couple of photos as we crossed the Huangpo Rover (shame about the tinted windows)

The Bund was once Shanghai's equivalent of 'Wall Street' and is home to an impressive collection of buildings from early trade houses of 1850s to glamorous Art Deco modernism of the 1920s,

Rather difficult to get the whole building in shot.

That’s one very dedicated window cleaner.

On the side of the embankment was a lovely "living wall"

Walking along the embankment was lovely and the afternoon light shone beautifully on the Pudong District's buildings - I got a little carried away.

Of course it's still a working river.

You can tell I like this view.

Arturo di Modica who sculpted this bronze bull, also created one which is in New York - apparently stroking  either bulls' undercarriage is believed to bring good luck.

Don't knock it, the presence of cameras deters pickpockets and makes you feel very safe (especially when carrying expensive cameras).

After dinner we came back to the area for an evening cruise along the Huangpo, which once again was a bit of a scrum but Ian did a superb job of keeping me safe from pushing people.  I've never seen anything like it before - it was absolutely fabulous.  Here's just a few to give you a flavour of the place as it got dark.

This reminds me of a picture I took in the Queen studio in Montreux.

I'm not sure if it's obvious but the image on the side of this building is of a cormorant fisherman standing on the end of his boat, oar in hand.
